Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional security measure used by Payouts.com to enhance the safety of your online account and card transactions. It verifies the identity of individuals attempting to access an online account or execute a card transaction, ensuring they are who they claim to be.

Initially, a user will enter their username and password. Then, rather than gaining immediate access, they must provide a second-factor authentication code generated by a device they physically have.

Payouts.com offers two main methods for generating authentication codes:

  1. Text Message (SMS) One-Time-Password (OTP)

  2. Mobile Authenticator App

With 2FA, just having your login details is insufficient to access your account, enhancing the security of both your account and card transactions.

Two-factor authentication on your Payouts.com account:

  1. Enabling 2FA for Your Account: Account owners and admins (or any user with permission to edit settings) can activate account-wide two-factor authentication in Settings > Security. Note that users must set up 2FA for themselves first before changing settings.

  2. Setting Up Your 2FA: New users to Payouts.com can initiate 2FA setup at first login. Existing users can set up 2FA at User profile > Security > Two-factor authentication.

  3. Choosing an Authenticator: Users can select either an SMS or App based authenticator, both of which are free. Payouts.com recommends Google Authenticator or Symantec VIP, easily installable on your phone and accessible without internet.

  4. Recovery Codes: If you're unable to receive a text message code or access your authenticator app, one of the 10 one-time use recovery codes can be used for 2FA verification. These codes are generated once you successfully set up 2FA.

  5. Trouble Logging In with 2FA: If you can't use SMS or the authenticator app, use one of the 10 recovery codes. If you don't have them, contact our Customer Support team for assistance.

  6. Deactivating 2FA or Skipping Setup: You can deactivate 2FA if it's not mandatory for all users in your Account. Check and deactivate under User profile > Security > Two-factor authentication.

  7. Remembering Your Device: For WebApp users, there's an option to remember your device for 48 hours. This feature is not available yet in the iOS or Android app.

  8. Resetting Your 2FA: You can reset or edit your 2FA in User Profile > Security > 2FA authentication method > Edit.

Two-factor Authentication on Your Card Payments:

Payouts.com also supports 2FA for card transactions, known as 3D Secure (3DS).

  1. What is 3DS? 3DS is a security protocol adding an extra layer of security to online card transactions. It typically requires a verification code during the checkout process.

  2. 3DS for Payouts.com Customers: As a Payouts.com cardholder, you may need to enter a verification code for online payments. Payouts.com will send the code via email or SMS.

For UK & EEA based cardholders, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) under PSD2 mandates the use of 3DS. Cardholders must have a mobile number on file with Payouts.com for EEA/UK card transactions. In other regions, cardholders can use either email or mobile to enroll in 3DS.
